Moreland's 4 RBIs Leads Red Sox to Series Sweep of Blue Jays

Mitch Moreland had a pinch-hit home run and recorded four RBIs as the Boston Red Sox cruised past the Toronto Blue jays 7-1 on Wednesday night to complete the series sweep.

The Red Sox improve to 76-57 on the season. They now hold a 5.5 game lead over the New York Yankees for first place in the AL East.

The Yankees were swept by Cleveland in a doubleheader by Cleveland.

Red Sox Break it Open Late

With the game tied at 1 in the seventh, Moreland pinch-hit for Chris Young and hit a two-run home run to give the Red Sox a 3-1 lead.

Boston would add to their lead in the 8th when Mookie Betts hit an RBI double to score Andrew Benintendi, putting Boston up 4-1.

Betts then scored on an RBI double by Xander Bogaerts to put the Red Sox up 5-1.

Moreland capped off the scoring with a two RBI single to score Bogaerts and Rafael Devers and give the Red Sox their 7-1 lead.

Red Sox pitcher Rick Porcello gave up one run in 6 2/3 innings to get the win.

Next up

The Red Sox return to action on Thursday, August 31 when they visit the New York Yankees.

The pitching matchup is Boston’s Eduardo Rodriguez against New York’s C.C. Sabathia.

Game time is set for 7 p.m.
