PC Hockey Incoming Freshman O'Brien Picked 19th by Philadelphia in NHL Draft

PC Hockey incoming freshman Jay O'Brien selected by Flyers in NHL Draft
Providence College hockey incoming freshman Jay O’Brien was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers with the 19th overall pick in round one of the NHL Draft on Friday night in Dallas.

O’Brien becomes the fourth first-round pick in Providence College hockey history joining Tom Fitzgerald, Joe Hulbig, and Mark Jankowski.

“I am just going to go to Providence and try and help them win another national championship,” O’Brien said after being drafted.

O’Brien will play for the Friars next season.

About O’Brien

O’Brien, 18, is a 5’11” center from Hingham, Massachusetts.

Last season at Thayer Academy, he tallied 43 goals and 37 assists for a total of 80 points in just 30 games.

He was recently invited tot he World Junior Summer Showcase in July, where he will have a chance to compete for a spot on the 2019 U.S. National Junior Team.

TSN’s Bob McKenzie had O’Brien ranked as the 34th best prospect in the draft.
