Steelers Announcer Hillgrove Says Deflategate Bordered on Witch Hunt

As the new NFL Season is set to kick off tonight at Gillette Stadium, the deflategate saga continues, though a bit quieter for the time being. Last week saw Patriots quarterback, Tom Brady, get his four game suspension overturned by New York Federal Court Judge Richard Berman. The NFL will now appeal that ruling, however, the case will not be heard anytime in the foreseeable future which means Tom Brady will be able to play the 2015 season.

"I think it was very overblown, I mean, it bordered on a witch hunt," said Bill Hillgrove, the Pittsburgh Steelers radio announcer of 20 years. "But, I think Tom Brady and Bill Belichick bring it on themselves a bit, they have a history of pushing the envelope," Hillgrove added.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are in town to play the Patriots in the season opener, and while all the deflategate talk won't be a factor, injuries and missing players will be a factor.

What to Expect From Pittsburgh

The Steelers come into the game with their starting center Maurkice Pouncy out with an ankle injury. Pouncy is not expected back until week 12 when the Steelers play the Seahawks.

Pittsburgh will also be without running back, Le'Veon Bell, who is suspended for the first two games of the season for substance abuse. To fill the void at running back, DeAngelo Williams, a nine year NFL veteran, has been brought in.

"I think DeAngelo Williams can come in and do a nice job for us, he will make it work," Hillgrove said. "The Maurkice Pouncy loss hurts us a bit, you know we lose some athleticism up front and that ability to get to the second level, but I think we will manage," Hillgrove added.

Pittsburgh's Weapons

Pittsburgh does come in with one of the best quarterbacks in the game in Ben Rothlisberger and one of the best receivers in the game in Antonio Brown.

Brown is coming off of a 2014 season, in which, he had career highs in catches with 129, yards with 1,698 and touchdowns with 13. Teamed with veteran tight end Heath Miller, Pittsburgh's receiving core can be lethal.

"I think that Antonio Brown is as good a receiver as there is in the game, and I think between him and Heath Miller they will get the job done," Hillgrove said of the Pittsburgh offense.

What the Steelers Have to do to Win

The Pittsburgh Steelers come in looking to pull off a season opening stunner, beating the Patriots at Gillette Stadium on a night when they raise their 2014 Super Bowl Championship banner.

However, to do that they will need to slow down Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski as well as the rest of the Patriots offense.

"I mean, Brady's accuracy is scary and he's got Rob Gronkowski to throw to, who is a freakazoid out there. The Steelers have to get a pass rush because Brady is not as good when he is under pressure, so they have to get to him," said Hillgrove.

Hillgrove added, "this should be a good game."
