URI Football Falls to New Hampshire 27-24 in Final Seconds

The University of Rhode Island football team fell to New Hampshire 27-24 on a last-second field goal on Saturday night in New Hampshire.

The loss drops the Rams to 0-3, while New Hampshire improves to 1-2.

The Rams trailed the Wildcats 24-10 early in the fourth quarter before mounting a rally.

Rhode Island quarterback Vito Priore led an 11-play, 65-yard drive resulting in a 5-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Coulter with 8:51 remaining to make the score 24-17.

After URI got a defensive stop, Priore led the Rams on a 13-play, 77-yard drive to tie the score.

During the drive, Priore came up with big plays on two separate fourth downs to get the Rams to the end zone.

On fourth-and-10 from the UNH 31-yard-line, Priore scrambled and gained 10 yards.

Then, facing fourth-and-8 from the UNH 29-yard-line, he connected with for 27 yards to set up Zoe Bryant's game-tying score.

Priore finished the game completing 28 of 38 passes for 312 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.

However, New Hampshire got the final possession of regulation.

On the possession, the Wildcats drove 60 yards in 1:25 to put them in field goal range.

UNH kicker Jason Hughes came out and nailed a 29-yard field goal as time expired to give UNH the win.

Next Up

The Rams return to action on Saturday, September 28 when they host Stony Brook.

Game time is set for 7 p.m.
