URI Football Must Win Season Finale to Clinch 1st Winning Record in 17 Years

The University of Rhode Island football team needs a win against New Hampshire in its final game of the season to finish with a winning record for the first time in 17 years.

The Rams come into the game with a record of 5-5, while New Hampshire comes into the game with a record of 4-6.

For Rhode Island, it has been almost a tale of two different seasons.

URI got off to a 4-1 start with wins over #15 Delaware, Albany, Harvard and Brown that launched them to #15 in the country.

However, since beating Brown 48-0 on October 6, URI won just one of their next five games giving them a .500 record heading into the season finale.

URI vs New Hampshire

Saturday’s game will mark the 93rd meeting in history between the two programs with New Hampshire leading the all-time series 59-28-5.

The Wildcats have won the last seven meetings between the teams, including a 28-14 win last season.

The Rams last win over New Hampshire came in 2010.

URI Offense

The Rams enter the game with the third-best scoring offense in the country, averaging 39.9 points per game on the season.

The Wildcats allow 22.7 points per game, fifth best in the league.

The Rams are led by JaJuan Lawson, who has thrown 16 touchdown passes on the season, including three last week.

Lawson needs 405 passing yards to reach 2,000 this season, despite missing 4.5 games due to injury.

He would be the 11th player in program history to reach 2,000 in one year.

Meanwhile, junior wide receiver Aaron Parker enters the final game needing 65 receiving yards to post the sixth 1,000-yard season by an individual in URI history.

Parker averages 93.5 receiving yards per game.

URI Defense

The Rams defense enters the game with the second-best turnover margin in the conference at +6.

The URI defense gives up an average of 28.9 points and 342 total yards per game.

Rhode is led by Branyan Javier-Castillo who has 73 tackles and 7.3 tackles per game.

L.B. Mack III leads URI with five sacks on the season.
