URI Football Looks to Upset #9 James Madison on Saturday

URI visits James Madison on Saturday
The URI Rams hit the road for the final time this season when they visit #9 James Madison on Saturday afternoon.

The Rams enter the game with a record of 5-4 overall and 3-3 in the CAA.

A win on Saturday would seal URI’s first winning season since 2001. In 2016, URI lost to James Madison 84-7 -- one of the worst losses in college football in the past decade.

James Madison comes into the game with a record of 6-3 overall and 4-2 in conference.

Game time is set for 2 p.m.

URI vs James Madison

Saturday’s game will be the 14th meeting in history between the two programs with James Madison leading the series 10-3.

James Madison has won each of the last eight games in the series, including a 38-3 win last year at Meade Stadium.

URI’s last win in the series came on September 22, 2001.

URI Offense

Senior quarterback JaJuan Lawson returned last week after missing several weeks with injury.

On the season, Lawson has completed 95 passes for 1,340 yards and 13 touchdowns and four interceptions.

Naim Jones leads the URI ground game with 88 rushes for 389 yards and four touchdowns.

Junior Aaron Parker is second in the CAA in touchdowns with 11 total on the season.

Last week he hauled in nine passes for 190 yards and three touchdowns.

URI Defense

The Rams defense enters Saturday’s game giving up an average of 27 points and 334 total yards per game.

Branyan Javier-Castillo leads URI with 67 tackles, an interception, and a fumble recovery. He averages 7.4 tackles per game.

Nas Jones follows up with 66 tackles on the season, as well as, one interception and one fumble recovery.
