NEW: RI Gas Prices Have Risen 20 Cents Over Last 3 Weeks

Rhode Island gas prices are up three cents from last week and have risen 20 cents over the last three weeks.

According to AAA Northeast’s May 7 survey of prices, Rhode Island finds self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.85 per gallon

Two weeks ago, GoLocalProv reported that gas prices rose 10 cents to $2.75. The following week, gas prices rose another six cents to $2.81.

“Crude oil prices are topping 70 dollars a barrel this morning, and pushing up prices at the pump once again. Rising crude prices, combined with geopolitical tensions that raise concerns about the supply of oil and energy products, are putting upward pressure on the market,” said Lloyd Albert, AAA Northeast Senior Vice President of Public and Government Affairs.

Rhode Island’s price is four cents higher than the national average of $2.81.

A year ago at this time, the average price in Rhode Island was 52 cents lower at $2.33 per gallon.
