Providence Preservation Society Opposes 195 Location for Stadium

The PPS opposes the proposed 195 location for a stadium.
The Providence Preservation Society has come out in opposition to the PawSox stadium proposal at the 195 location.

In a statement released on Saturday, the PPS said, "For several months, the Providence Preservation Society has analyzed the proposal by the Pawtucket Red Sox to build a ballpark on former I-195 land along the Providence River. Advocating for excellence in urban planning and design is central to the mission of PPS. Following deliberation by the PPS Planning and Architectural Review Committee and our Board of Trustees, PPS developed a statement on the ballpark proposal."

The PPS wrote, "We agree that an in-town ballpark could be an attractive amenity for Providence. It may also be true that privately funded development on that site would alleviate the public’s obligation of maintaining a new park. While these are both legitimate statements, the benefits of this development on this site do not outweigh the significant direct and indirect benefits that would derive from the retention of this large public space. For these reasons, we are opposed to a ballpark on the proposed location."
