Everything to Know About PC Basketball in 2019-20

The Providence College Friars open their 2019-20 season on Tuesday night at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center against the Sacred Heart Pioneers.
“Gameday to me is like wedding day. Your excited, you don’t know what to expect. Your happy to be there, but with this senior group, I hope that when we’re here sometime in March, people will say there is really something special about this group,” said PC head coach Ed Cooley during his media session on Thursday.

Last season, the Friars finished 18-16 overall and 7-11 in the Big East. PC went on to lose to Villanova in the second round of the Big East Tournament at Madison Square Garden in New York.
After missing the NCAA Tournament for the first time in six years, Providence was selected to the National Invitation Tournament where they lost a home game to Arkansas 84-72.
“I’m coaching a team that is a little hungrier than last year, where I think they got spoiled a little bit and I think we were humbled a lot last year not being a tournament team,” added Cooley.
In 2019-2020 the Friars return all five starters, including Alpha Diallo, David Duke, AJ Reeves, and Nate Watson.
They also return Emmitt Holt and add guard Luwane Pipkins, who transferred in from UMass.
“I think the addition of Pipkins as the point guard is huge. He is a very good point guard, I’ve seen him play, he adds another dimension. He can hit the three, he gives the Friars flexibility and he will free up Reeves on the outside. Now, you have two guys on the floor that can make the three and that opens up Diallo and Watson inside,” said PC radio analyst Joe Hassett.
Cooley added, “Really exciting time here for Providence College, really excited to coach this group. There’s something very special about this group and I can’t wait to get out there.”
