PC Holds On to Beat UMass 75-69 for 4th Straight Win

Bullock led the Friars with 26 points
The Providence College Friars have won four games in a row after they held on to beat UMass 75-69 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Saturday afternoon.

"I thought we made some timely shots. First half we were a little sluggish, second half we got some energy, we were able to get a substantial lead and hold on. I'm proud of the guy's grit, energy, I thought everyone that stepped on the floor did a really good job," said Providence head coach Ed Cooley after the game.

The win moves PC to 8-2 on the season, while the Minutemen drop to 6-3 overall.

PC Holds On

After leading by as many as 13 points in the second, UMass' full-court pressure gave the Friars problems and allowed the Minutemen to pull within three, 66-63, with 1:51 to play in the game.

"When we were attacking with a purpose the press didn't bother us at all, but when you get tentative that's when pressure really bothers you," Cooley said.

Despite struggling with the full court press, PC would regain control.

Two Emmitt Holt free throws put the Friars up 68-63 and a Holt dunk put the Friars back in control, leading 70-63 with 50 seconds to play in the game.

UMass would not get closer than six points the rest of the way, giving the Friars their third straight win over the Minutemen in the last three years.

The Friars took their 13 point lead after Jalen Lindsey knocked down two free throws with 5:38 to play in the game, putting Providence up 64-51 before the Minutemen clawed back.

Back and Forth 1st Half

Providence trailed 16-7 with 12:51 left in the half following a three from Tyrn Flowers. That three would cap off a 10-1 UMass run giving them control of the game early in the half.

PC came back with a run of their own.

Sparked by layups from Maliek White, Drew Edwards, and a three by Holt, the Friars would go on a 12-1 run to take a 19-17 lead with 7:56 to play in the half.

The Minutemen would regain control, building a 27-23 lead before PC would end the half on a 6-1 run and take a 29-28 lead into the half.

The Leaders

Bullock led the Friars with 26 points on 7 of 14 shooting from the field and 10 of 12 from the free throw line. He also grabbed ten rebounds to complete the double-double.

Holt added 18 points on 6 of 12 shooting from the field, while Kyron Cartwright dished out 12 assists.
