PC Hockey Ranked #5 in Country to Open Season

PC hockey opens the season ranked 5th
The Providence College Friars hockey team will open the season ranked fifth in the country in the USCHO.com poll.

Providence got 698 points in the poll, trailing Minnesota Duluth (982), Notre Dame (857), Ohio State (835) and Michigan (790).

This marks the fourth time in the last five seasons in which PC will open the season ranked in the top ten.

Friars in 2018-19

Providence is coming off their fifth straight NCAA Tournament appearance and a 24-win season in 2017-18.

PC returns second-team all-American Jacob Bryson and second-team Hockey East all-star goaltender Hayden Hawkey.

The Friars also return four players who posted double-digit goal totals last season in Kasper Björkqvist, Josh Wilkins, Scott Conway, and Vimal Sukumaran.

The Friars incoming freshman class includes four NHL draft picks. They are Michael Callahan, Jack Dugan, Mikael Hakkarainen and Jay O’Brien.

Season Begins

The Friars open their season on Saturday, October 6 when they host American International at Schneider Arena.

Game time is set for 7 p.m.
