Red Sox Manage Only 4 Hits, Fall 6-2 to Yankees

Boston Red Sox pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez gave up five runs and ten hits as the Red Sox fell 6-2 to the New York Yankees on Thursday night at Yankee Stadium.

Prior to Thursday’s game, Rodriguez was 4-1 with a 2.31 ERA in eight games against the Yankees. He also had a 1.38 ERA in 26 innings at Yankee Stadium.

The loss drops the Red Sox to 76-58 on the season. They maintain a 4.5 game lead over the Yankees in the AL East.

Yankees Break Game Open

Already leading 2-1 in the sixth inning, New York’s Chase Headley doubled to lead off the inning.

Greg Bird followed with a two-run home run to give the Yankees a 4-1 lead.

New York’s Didi Gregorius added an RBI single later in the inning to put New York up 5-1.

The Yankees would add to their lead in the seventh when Bird hit an RBI single to put the Yankees up 6-1.

Boston would get a run back in the 9th, but fell 6-2.

The Red Sox only managed four hits off of New York pitcher CC Sabathia.

The Red Sox and Yankees continue their series on Friday, September 1 at 7 p.m.

The pitching matchup is Boston’s Doug Fister against New York’s Sonny Gray.
