Sale Outduels Verlander, Red Sox Beat Tigers 11-3

Chris Sale improves to 8-2 on the season
In a battle of ace pitchers, Boston’s Chris Sale outlasted Detroit’s Justin Verlander as the Red Sox beat the Tigers 11-3 on Saturday night at Fenway Park. 

Sale went seven innings, giving up three runs on nine hits while striking out seven. The win is his seventh straight and improves him to 8-2 on the season. 

Verlander gave up three runs and four walks in five innings of work.

The Red Sox improve to 34-27 with the win. 

Red Sox Offense Comes Alive Late 

With the game tied at three in the bottom of the 7th, Boston’s Mitch Moreland belted a two-run double off the green monster to score Dustin Pedroia and Xander Bogaerts to give the Red sox a 5-3 lead. 

Josh Rutledge would add an RBI single to give Boston up 6-3 in the game. 

One inning later, Andrew Benintendi hit a two-run single in the 8th to extend Boston’s lead to 8-3, before they would go on to add three more runs in the inning.

The Red Sox and Tigers wrap up their series on Sunday Night Baseball at 8 p.m. 

The pitching matchup is Boston’s Drew Pomeranz against Detroit’s Daniel Norris.
