Smithfield Little League Wins - Going to the World Series UPDATED

Smithfield Little League All-Stars won the Metro Region Championship with a 7-1 victory over New York’s Massapequa on Friday night. 

 

Smithfield pitcher Connor Curtis struck out 14 batters.

The Smithfield team now heads to the Little League World Series in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

 

Smithfield had previously lost to the New York team 10-1 earlier in the regional play.

 

This is the 9th time a Rhode Island team has gone to Williamsburg.

 

The last time was in 2019, when Barrington won New England.

 

NEXT UP: Smithfield will face Nevada, the Mountain Region champions on Wednesday, Aug. 16, at 3 p.m.

 

The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
