The University of Rhode Island men’s basketball got its first Atlantic-10 win on the road on Saturday at Davidson, and it looked like the team may have turned the corner.

But Wednesday night’s loss to VCU at the Ryan Center was a major disappointment  — falling 84-75.

Rhode Island drops to 10-8 and 1-4 in the A-10.

VC is now 12-6 and 3-2, and they are coached by former Bryant University coach Phil Martelli, Jr.

Stats for the game were similar. Both teams shot 49% from the field, URI out-rebounded VCU 31-30.

But URI turned the ball over 13 times, while VCU turned it over just 5 times.

URI never led in the game.

Cochran led Rhode Island with 17 points, but was just 5 of 14 from the field.
