PC Avoids a Disaster, Edge Xavier 69-66 in OT

The Providence College Friars (15-5, 5-2)  defeated (12-7, 3-4) Xavier 69-66 in overtime on Thursday night at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. With the win, PC remains in a tie for second place in the Big East Conference and only a half game back of first place Georgetown.

"I thought this was a culture win for us, an absolute culture win,  our leaders wouldn't let us lose this game," Head coach Ed Cooley said after the game.

From collapse to recovery. 

Providence led 59-49 with three minutes left in the game before turnovers helped Xavier go on a 11-1 run to tie the game at 60. Providence got a final possession but failed to convert, sending the game to OT. 

In the OT period, the game was tied up at 64 with 1:24 left when LaDontae Henton  grabbed an offensive rebound and converted the basket while getting fouled. Henton made his free-throw and PC would retake the lead 67-64. Desrosiers would seal the game at the free throw line. 

Double-Double machines 

The Friars were led by LaDontae Henton who registered a double-double with 24 points on nine of 18 shooting from the field and ten rebounds. 

Kris Dunn followed up with a double-double, nearly triple-double, of his own netting 20 points, grabbing ten rebounds and dishing out eight assists. 

The Musketeers were led by Matt Stainbrook with 17 points and ten rebounds while teammate Jalen Reynolds had 14 points and 13 rebounds.

Next up 

The Friars return to action on Tuesday, January  27 when they host Depaul at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. Tip - off is set for 9 p.m.
