PC Avoids a Disaster, Edge Xavier 69-66 in OT

Providence led 59-49 with three minutes left in the game before turnovers helped Xavier go on a 11-1 run to tie the game at 60. Providence got a final possession but failed to convert, sending the game to OT.
In the OT period, the game was tied up at 64 with 1:24 left when LaDontae Henton grabbed an offensive rebound and converted the basket while getting fouled. Henton made his free-throw and PC would retake the lead 67-64. Desrosiers would seal the game at the free throw line.
Double-Double machines
The Friars were led by LaDontae Henton who registered a double-double with 24 points on nine of 18 shooting from the field and ten rebounds.
Kris Dunn followed up with a double-double, nearly triple-double, of his own netting 20 points, grabbing ten rebounds and dishing out eight assists.
The Musketeers were led by Matt Stainbrook with 17 points and ten rebounds while teammate Jalen Reynolds had 14 points and 13 rebounds.

The Friars return to action on Tuesday, January 27 when they host Depaul at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. Tip - off is set for 9 p.m.

Five Takeaways From the Friars 69-66 Win Over Xavier
Points in the Paint
The Friars got smoked in the points in the paint department in this game, losing 40-22.
The Friars were taking mostly jump shots and therefore only shot 39% from the field and 14% from three-point land.
The Friars should look to drive to the basket more to create better chances and maybe even get some free throws.
Tyler Harris
Other then Henton and Dunn, Tyler Harris was the only player in double-figures for the Friars. Harris netted 12 points on 4-of-11 shooting from the field in 37 minutes off he bench.
Harrs continues to be a frustrating player to watch this season due to his inconsistency. Harris hit a couple of big shots for PC in the second half but also had a couple of bad shots, one of which was an airball.
With all that said, if Tyler Harris can come in and give 12 points or more off the bench on a day to day basis, I think the Friars will take it.
Kris Dunn
Along with Henton, Kris Dunn carried the Friars especially late in the game and into the OT period.
Dunn netted 20 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field, grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out 8 assists, nearly recording a triple - double. Dunn also added three steals to his stat line.
Dunn had four turnovers in the game according to the box score but it seemed like a couple more. He had a few really ill-advised passes and others in which teammates bailed him out on.
LaDontae Henton
In the OT period, with the game tied at 64 with 1:24 left, LaDontae Henton grabbed an offensive rebound and converted the basket while getting fouled. Henton made his free-throw and PC would retake the lead for good at 67-64.
LaDontae Henton led the Friars with 24 points on 9-of-18 shooting from the field and 5-for-5 from the free throw line. Henton also grabbed ten rebounds in the game.
End of regulation
With the game tied 60-60, PC got the ball back for a final possession and a chance to essentially walk off with a win. Ed Cooley called a time out to draw up a play.
When asked after the game, Cooley explained that the play was drawn up for Henton.
Coming out of the TO, the ball was inbounded to Kris Dunn who proceeded to take the ball into the corner near the Friar bench and stand and dribble for about 20 of the 26 seconds while the fans yelled for him to go.
Henton, who was covered, never came to get the ball or attempted to, Dunn literally stood there and dribbled.
Anyway, Dunn finally moved with the seconds ticking down and ended up giving the ball to Desrosiers who launched an open three-pointer but missed.
So a play that was drawn up for Henton, went to Desrosiers after Dunn dribbled the clock away to almost nothing.
Poor execution.
Good thing the Friars recovered in OT.
