Man Arrested for Violent East Side Attack on Couple Was Arrested Weeks Earlier for Another Assault

As GoLocal first reported on Monday, Pawtucket resident Kelvin Colon was arrested after he allegedly assaulted the couple by punching them, threatening them with a metal pipe, and chasing them in a car, driving the wrong way down a city street and hopping a curb.
According to court documents — and confirmed by the Department of Corrections — Colon is currently being held without bail due to violating his prior bail terms, after he was arrested for a prior assault on River Drive.

GoLocal has now learned that on the morning of August 10, Colon was arrested for allegedly perpetrating another random attack.
That morning, police responded to River Drive and Irving Avenue on the East Side for a report of a physical assault.

The victim said in the altercation both men ended up in the Seekonk River and that several witnesses saw the assault.
Colon reportedly fled in the same vehicle he used in the Thayer Street attack; a Gray Toyota Corolla that had neither a front nor rear license plate.
He was later arrested on simple assault charges — a misdemeanor.
According to court records, Colon pleaded not-guilty and posted bail set at $2000 at his arraignment hearing with Magistrate J. Patrick O’Neill

Records show that Colon had a previous arrest record dating back to 2012 when he was arrested on felony drug charges.
In 2013, he pled nolo contendre and entered into a deferred sentence agreement under Magistrate Patrick Burke.
He was charged by the Rhode Island State Police in May 2021 for lacking an inspection sticker on his vehicle.
The case was disposed of by judicial officer Alan Goulart on July 8.
According to Providence Police Major David Lapatin, Providence Police are reevaluating the simple assault misdemeanor charge stemming from the Thayer Street assault.
Colon is due back in court on September 8.
Now, the cases are beginning to pile up for Colon and continue to test the Rhode Island judicial system.
