Man Shot and Killed in Providence, Councilwoman Castillo Says “My Heart Is Broken”

On Friday, a 27-year-old man was gunned down in Providence and City Councilwoman Carmen Castillo is speaking out about the killing.

“It is so upsetting that there was yet another deadly shooting in my neighborhood today. It is even more upsetting that it occurred at a time when students were getting out of school,” said Castillo who represents Ward 9. 

“My heart is broken for the young man who lost his life, and my thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family at this time,” she said.

According to Providence Police, the shooting occurred around 2:30 p.m. on Lenox Avenue.

Police say the victim was sitting in his car outside his home when the suspect(s) approached and began shooting.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, police said, while the gunman got away in a car

It is just the latest shooting that looks to have gang connections.

Providence has been plagued by shooting the second half of the year.
