Top 10 of 2010: David Cicilline

David Cicilline fended off three Democratic primary challengers—including his party’s boss and a moderate with a big name and an even bigger bank account—then skated all the way to victory in November, seemingly unscathed by the scandal over the city of Providence going broke.

The last of the Kennedys may be out of Congress, but Cicilline is keeping the legacy alive by having a former Ted Kennedy aide as his right-hand man in Congress. Cicilline’s arrival in office also marks a number of other firsts for Rhode Island—not only is he the first openly gay Congressman from the state but he also lays claim to being the first Jewish and first Italian U.S. Rep from Rhode Island.
