Benintendi's Two-Run Single Lifts Red Sox Over Tampa 4-3

Andrew Benintendi's two-run single leads Red Sox to win
Andrew Benintendi hit a go-ahead, two-run single as Boston Red Sox scored three unearned runs in the second inning before holding on to beat the Tampa Bay Rays 4-3 at Fenway Park on Monday afternoon. 

First pitch of the game was at 11 a.m., coinciding with the Boston Marathon. 

The Red Sox have now won three straight games and improve to 8-5 on the season.

Red Sox Rally in 2nd 

The Red Sox trailed 2-1 in the second inning when Tampa’s Brad Miller dropped a toss from shortstop Tim Beckham that would have ended the inning. 

Next Red Sox at bat, Andrew Benintendi hit a go-ahead, two-run single to give the Red Sox a 3-2 lead. Mookie betts would follow up with a single to extend Boston’s lead to 4-2 in the inning. 

The Rays got one run back in the 7th inning before Craig Kimbrel struck out the side in the ninth for his 6th save of the season. 

Red Sox starter Steven Wright picked up his first win of the season, allowing three runs - one earned - and nine hits in six innings. In his previous start, he gave up four home runs in less than two innings. 

Red Sox Hit the Road 

The Red Sox return to action on Tuesday, April 18 when they begin a series against the Toronto Blue Jays. 

Brian Johnson is expected to make the start for Boston against Toronto’s Marcus Stroman. 

First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m.
