Moreland's Two RBI Single Helps Red Sox Rally Past Tampa 7-5

The Boston Red Sox got a go-ahead two-run single in the seventh inning en route to a 7-5 win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday afternoon at Fenway Park. 

Moreland signed with the Red Sox as a free agent on a one-year deal worth $5.5 million in the offseason. He has gone 16 for 33 and is batting .333 after starting the year 0 for 12

The Red Sox have now won two straight games and improve to 7-5 on the year. 

Red Sox Rally 

Trailing 5-4 in the 7th inning, the Red Sox loaded the bases against Tampa’s Danny Farquhar before he was taken out of the game. 

The Rays brought in Xavier Cedeno to face Moreland. 

Moreland hit a single off Cedeno to drive in two runs and give the Red Sox a 6-5 lead. 

Christian Vazquez added an RBI double in the 8th inning to increase Boston’s lead to 7-5. 

Craig Kimbrel had two strikeouts in the 9th to earn his fifth save of the season. 

Reliever Joe Kelly picked up the win for the Red Sox after starter Drew Pomeranz gave up five runs in four and a third innings pitched. 

Series Continues 

The Red Sox wrap up their series with the Rays on Monday, April 17 with first pitch set for 11 a.m. 

Steven Wright is set to make the start for Boston against Blake Snell.
