Brown Football Falls to Penn 38-36 in Final Seconds

The Brown Bears football team fell to the University of Pennsylvania in the final seconds on Saturday afternoon, losing 38-36.

This is the second straight week in which the Bears have lost a game in the final seconds.

"We're definitely getting better each week as a team. After two straight road games we're looking forward to next week's home game vs. Yale and having a good week of practice,” said Brown head coach James Perry after the game.

The Bears fall to 1-6 on the season, while Penn improves to 3-4 overall.

Bears Fall in Final Seconds

Brown trailed Penn 35-19 in the second quarter before rallying to take a brief lead.

A 24-yard field goal by kicker Dawson Goepferich cut Penn’s lead 35-22, at the 6:06 mark of the third quarter.

Another Brown score, this time a one-yard run by sophomore Allen Smith, brought the Bears to within 35-29 of the Quakers with 13:09 left in the game.

Brown took its first lead since the second quarter when quarterback EJ Perry ran for a 16-yard touchdown, giving the Bears a 36-35 advantage with 8:40 left in the game.

Perry finished the game with 117 yards rushing and three touchdowns, while passing for another. Overall he completed 20 of 37 passes for 225 yards.

After the teams traded defensive stops, Penn’s game-winning 74-yard scoring drive consumed 4:08, setting up a 22-yard field goal by Daniel Karrish with two seconds left in the game, giving Penn the 38-36 win.

The Bears return to action on Saturday, November 9 when they host Yale.

Game time is set for 12:30 p.m.
