Hobbie Leads Brown Past Penn 71-55

The Brown Bears men's basketball team (11-14, 2-6 Ivy League) defeated (7-14, 2-5 Ivy League) Penn 71-58 on Saturday night  in Penn. After losing five games in a row to start conference play, Brown has now won two of their last three games.

Brown trailed 30-29 at the half but opened the second on fire, going on a 15-4 run  to go up 44-34 with 14 minutes left in the game after J.R. Hobbie nailed three-pointers on back to back possessions.

Penn would get within four, 48-44, with nine minutes left but Brown would use an 8-2 run to push the lead backup to ten, 56-46, and Penn would not get closer then five points the rest of the way. 

J.R. Hobbie led the Brown Bears with a career high 21 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field, including 5-of-7 from three point land. Steven Spieth followed up with 19 points of his own in the game.

Penn was led by Matt Howard who poured in 19 points. No other Penn player reached double figures.

The Brown Bears return to action on Friday February 19 when they host Columbia at the Pizzitola Center. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
