NEW: Russell's Three With 4 Seconds Left Lifts URI Over Harvard 76-74

Fatts Russell hits a game three with four seconds left
Sophomore Fatts Russell knocked down a three-pointer with four seconds to play to lift the URI Rams over the Harvard Crimson 76-74 on Friday night at the Ryan Center.

Russell finished the game with 20 points on 5 of 18 shooting from the field, while Jeff Dowtin poured in 31 points to lead all scorers.

The win improves URI to 2-1 on the season. Harvard falls to 2-2 overall.

Trailing 72-69 with 2:16 to play in the game the Rams cut the lead to two, 72-70, on a free throw from Dowtin.

Dowtin missed the second free throw, however, URI’s Tyrese Martin grabbed the offensive rebound and on his missed layup, Cyril Langevine grabbed the offensive rebound.

Seconds later Russell found Dowtin for an open three-pointer to give the Rams a 73-72 lead with 1:12 to play.

With 11 seconds to play, Harvard’s Justin Bassey hit two free throws to give the Crimson the lead back, 74-73.

Rhode Island did not take a timeout following the second free throw, instead pushed the ball up the floor en route to getting a three from Russell with four seconds left.

On Harvard’s final possession, Noah Kirkwood missed a three with one second left to give Rhode Island the win.

Key offensive rebounds made the difference for the Rams down the stretch, and they grabbed 11 of them in the game.

Langevin led Rhode Island with three offensive boards and 10 rebounds overall. He also added 13 points.

Next Up

The Rams return to action Saturday, November 24 when they host Stony Brook at the Ryan Center.
