Sale Strikes Out 10, But Red Sox are Shut Out by Phillies 1-0

Ty Kelly gets game winning hits for Phillies
Chris Sale pitched eight innings and struck out 10, but the Boston Red Sox could not give him any run support as they were shut out by the Phillies 1-0 on Thursday night in Philadelphia. 

The loss drops the Red Sox to 37-29 on the season.

After the Red Sox were unable to score with one out and a man on third in the top of the 8th, Philadelphia’s Andrew Knapp hit a single off Chris Sale to set the stage for pinch-hitter Ty Kelly in the bottom of the inning. 

Kelly hit a line drive into the left-field corner to score Knapp and give the Phillies a 1-0 lead in the game. 

In the 9th, Phillies’ closer Hector Neris came on and picked up his sixth save in seven tries. The win is Philadelphia’s first interleague win of the season. 

Boston only managed five hits in the game

Next up 

The Red Sox return to action on Friday, June 16 when they visit the Houston Astros. First pitch is set for 8:10 p.m .

The pitching matchup is Boston’s Drew Pomeranz against Houston’s Mike Fiers.
