URI Can’t Hold on

The URI Rams led 27-13 with 9:52 to play in the fourth quarter when kicker CJ Carrick nailed a 38-yard field goal.

That lasted until the Black Bears got a three-yard touchdown run from Jo Fitzpatrick to tie the game at 27 with 3:16 to go.

Rhode Island responded, driving to the Maine 12-yard line to set up a 29-yard Carrick field goal.

The Rams reclaimed the lead, 30-27, with just 1:49 to go.

URI then pinned Maine at its own 19 on the ensuing kickoff, but the Black Bears drove 81 yards in five plays for the winning score, an 11-yard touchdown pass from Joe Fagnano to Ernie Edwards for the winning score with just 34 seconds to go.
