Holliday's 3-Run Home Run Lifts Yankees Over Red Sox 5-1

Boston Red Sox pitcher Drew Pomeranz gave up a three-run home run in the sixth inning as the Red Sox fell 5-1 to the Yankees on Saturday.

With the loss, the Red Sox drop to 77-59 on the season.

They have a 4.5 game lead over the Yankees for first place in the AL East.

With the game tied at one in the bottom of the sixth, New York’s Matt Holliday hit a three run home run to left field off Pomeranz to give the Yankees a 4-1 lead.

The Yankees added to their lead in the seventh when Jacoby Ellsbury hit a triple and then scored on a single by Gary Sanchez to give New York a 5-1 lead.

Yankees pitcher Masahiro Tanaka gave up five hits and one run in just over seven innings pitched.

Series Concludes

The Red Sox and Yankees conclude their series on Sunday night at 7:30 p.m.

The pitching matchup is Boston’s Chris Sale against New York’s Luis Severino.
