Man Hits Police Car - and House - After Fleeing Traffic Stop in Providence

A man hit a police car -- and a house -- after fleeing a traffic stop in Providence on Tuesday. 

About Incident 

According to police, shortly before 3 AM, police observed a vehicle pass through a stop sign at Bucklin and Dexter Streets.

Police said that a traffic stop was conducted in the parking lot of the Westfield Lofts where the driver bailed on foot. 

After a brief foot chase, police say the driver re-entered his vehicle and fled, striking the officer's vehicle in the process. 

Another officer monitoring the broadcast observed the vehicle in the distance on Dexter Street turning on Westminster, and said that the vehicle then turned onto Courtland where it struck a residence.

The driver was taken into custody with a minor wrist injury.

The police vehicle grounded with minor damage; officers were uninjured.
