Pedroia's 2-Run Home Run Helps Red Sox Beat Rays 8-3

Dustin Pedroia hit a two run home run to help Red Sox beat Rays
Dustin Pedroia hit a two-run home run while Jackie Bradley Jr. and Hanley Ramirez added home runs of their own helping the Boston Red Sox cruise past the Tampa Bay Rays 8-3 on Friday night in Tampa.

Red Sox pitcher Drew Pomeranz picked up his third consecutive win, giving up only two runs in six innings while allowing six hits and walking five.

The win snaps a two-game losing streak for Boston who improves to 50-37 on the season.

Home Runs Lead Red Sox to Win

The Red Sox took a 2-0 lead in the top of the 3rd inning after a Andrew Benintendi single scored Mookie Betts, Pedroia hit a two run home run to left field to extend the Boston lead to 4-0.

The home run was Pedroia’s third of the season.

Betts hit an RBI double earlier in the inning to get Boston on the board 1-0 in the inning.

In the fourth inning, Bradley Jr. added a solo home run to left field on a 2-2 count to build the Red Sox lead to 5-0, before the Rays would get on the board in the bottom of the inning.

Leading 5-2 in the fifth inning, the Red Sox would add two more runs to take a 7-2 lead before a Hanley Ramirez home run in the 9th inning would cap off the Red Sox scoring.

They would go on to win 8-3.

The Red Sox and Rays continue their series on Saturday, July 8 at 4 p.m.

The pitching matchup is Boston’s Rick Porcello against Tampa’s Alex Cobb.
