Sale Strikes Out 9, Red Sox Beat Twins 4-1

Chris Sale struck out 9 in Boston's win
Chris Sale struck out nine Minnesota batters in just over six innings pitched while Mitch Moreland hit a home run for the third straight game as the Boston Red Sox beat the Minnesota Twins 4-1 at Fenway Park on Monday night. 

Sale’s nine strikeouts increases his total to 155 on the season and improves him to 10-3 on the season. 

The Red Sox improve to 42-34 on the season and are in first place in the AL East.

Red Sox Fast Start 

The Boston offense got off to a fast start in this game, scoring two runs in the first inning. 

After Mookie Betts scored on a Xander Bogaerts double play ground ball, Moreland hit a home run to center field to give Boston their 2-0 lead. 

The Twins got one run back in the third to cut the Red Sox lead to 2-1, but Boston would get it back in the seventh. 

Dustin Pedroia hit an RBI single to right field scoring Sandy Leon to give the Red Sox a 3-1 lead. 

Moreland would add a sacrifice fly to center to score Betts and give Boston a 4-1 lead. 

Craig Kimbrel came on in the ninth and picked up his 21st save of the season.

The Red Sox and Twins continue their series on Tuesday, June 27 at 7 p.m. 

The pitching matchup is Boston’s Drew Pomeranz against Minnesota’s Hector Santiago.
