UPDATED: Man Murdered on Friday Night in Providence — 8th Homicide of the Year
Providence Police PHOTO: FileProvidence Police tell GoLocal that a man sitting in a car on Pope Street in the Olneyville neighborhood was shot and killed.
The shooting took place around 9 PM on Friday night.
Police are investigating if the incident has any ties to Thursday night. Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza was seen at the site of the shooting on Friday night, but refused to issue a comment on Friday's murder.
Elorza's office did not respond to requests for comment.
Thursday night’s gunfight on Carolina Avenue was the worst shooting in Providence history.
“The shooting involved two gangs, one pulled up and opened up and the other crew had their guns on the porch and returned fire,” said Providence Police Chief High Clements.
“All [were] players we have arrested in the past and to date, none of them have been cooperative,” said Clements.
Dozens of bullet casings could be seen spewed across Carolina Avenue Thursday night.
Providence Police tell GoLocal that Thursday night's shooting is just another incident in an endless series of violent incidents centered around the two gangs.
