PC Upsets #21 URI 63-60 in Thriller at Dunkin' Donuts Center

Jalen Lindsey knocked down a big jump shot to give PC a commanding lead.
The Providence College Friars upset #21 URI 63-60 on Saturday afternoon in front of a sold out crowd at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. PC has now won seven straight games over the Rams and eight of the last nine.

"Really excited about the win for our program, I thought we played a great URI team, very physical team, they can take you apart in a lot of ways defensively. I thought we had some timely stops and I thought we were led by Kyron [Cartwright], I thought Kyron was fantastic today for 40 minutes," said Providence head coach Head Cooley after the game.

The Rams have now lost two straight games, both of them coming on the road.

"We came into the season wanting to be A-10 champs and get to the NCAA Tournament, and I don't think any of those things have changed," said URI head coach Dan Hurley after the game.

The Final Possessions

URI's Jared Terrell converted a three-point play to bring URI within one, 59-58 with 26 seconds left. On PC's ensuing possession Rodney Bullock got an open dunk on a three-quarter court pass to give the Friars a 61-58 lead with 10 seconds left in the game.  See the video below.

"What I saw was my teammates trying to get open, and at the last second I saw, I think it might have been Emmitt [Holt] in the middle, I don't know who it was that bit on it, but I just tried to zip it to Rodney as fast as I could," said Cartwright after the game.

Prior to that, PC was up 57-55 with 40 seconds left when Jalen Lindsey drove to the basket and hit a pull-up jumper to give the Friars a 59-55 lead with 40 seconds remaining in the game.

"I thought Jalen made the shot of the game, we call it an 'oh my god' shot, but you know that happens, that happens in this type of game," said Cooley.

Back and Forth First Half

A Cartwright three put the Friars up 26-25 with 4:24 left in the half before the Rams made their run. This would be PC’s final points from the field of the half.

Over the final four minutes of the half, URI went on a 10-3 run capped off by a three-pointer from Terrell to go up 35-29 with 1:05 left. This would be their second largest lead of the game after leading by as much as seven earlier in the half.

The Rams would lock down on defense to close the half, forcing the Friars into a shot clock violation and a missed Cartwright jump shot to take their six-point lead into the half.

The Leaders

Cartwright led the Friars with 19 points on 6 of 12 shooting from the field to go along with eight assists. Bullock added 17 points on 5 of 11 shooting.

The Rams were led by Hassan Martin, who each had 14 points in the game, with Martin adding 17 rebounds
