NCAA Chair Says URI's A-10 Win Knocked PC Into First Four Game

NCAA men's basketball committee chairman Mark Hollis said that URI"s A-10 Tournament Championship win on Sunday afternoon knocked the Providence College Friars into a first four game.
“Rhode Island won (their conference), so they couldn’t qualify as one of the 36 at-large teams. They pushed Providence down the board by winning, so perhaps that’ll be a big story in Rhode Island," Hollis told Westwood One.

The Friars, an 11 seed, will face USC on Wednesday night in Dayton while the Rams will face Creighton in the first round on Friday night.

Projections Entering Selection Sunday

The Rams were projected to be one of the last four teams into the tournament.
Fuel to the Rivalry
This news will only add fuel to the PC-URI rivalry.
When the two teams meet at the Ryan Center next year, it will be the 130th meeting all-time.
The Friars have won seven straight and eight of the last nine games against Rhode Island with URI's last win in Providence coming in a 73-71 thriller in December of 2002.
In the most recent game, the Friars upset #21 URI at the Dunkin' Donuts Center 63-60, knocking the Rams out of the national poll.
