Pedroia Homers, Red Sox Cruise Past Rays 9-0

Dustin Pedroia hit a two-run home run and Chris Sale struck out eight over six innings as the Boston Red Sox cruised past the Tampa Bay Rays 9-0 at Fenway Park on Saturday. 

This was the second consecutive game in which the Red Sox scored nine runs off Rays pitching.

The Red Sox have now won four straight games and improve to 81-61 on the season. They maintain a 4.5 game lead over the New York Yankees in the AL East. 

Red Sox Roll 

Following an Eduardo Nunez single, Pedroia hit a home run into the first row of the Green Monster to give Boston a 2-0 lead. The Red Sox would add a third run on a groundout by Mitch Moreland. 

In the second inning, Boston would blow the game open. 

Andrew Benintendi hit a two-run double off the Green Monster and Moreland followed up with a two-run single. 

The Red Sox would add a fifth run in the inning on a throwing error by Evan Longoria. 

Boston would add one more run in the third inning and cruise to the 9-0 win.

The Red Sox and Rays wrap up their series on Sunday, September 10 at 1:30 p.m.

The pitching matchup is Boston’s Rick Porcello against Tampa’s Alex Cobb.
