NEW: PC's Kris Dunn Drafted 5th Overall by the Timberwolves

Former Providence College star Kris Dunn was selected 5th overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2016 NBA Draft in Brooklyn on Thursday night. 

Dunn is the first PC player to be drafted in the first round since MarShon Brooks in 2011 and is the first Friar to be drafted in the top 10 since Otis Thorpe was taken 9th overall in 1984. 

Dunn is the 4th PC player to be drafted in the top 5 of the NBA Draft behind Jimmy Walker, Marvin Barnes and Ernie DiGregorio.

Kris Dunn at Providence 

This past season at Providence, Dunn averaged 16.4 points, 6.2 assists and 5.3 rebounds per game, leading the Friars to the second round of the NCAA Tournament as a redshirt junior.

Dunn has been named the Big East Player of the Year and the Defensive Player of the Year in each of the past two seasons.

The Friars went 23-10 overall this season, and 10-8 in the Big East, making the tournament for the third straight season. 

He graduated from PC in May.
