Red Sox Fall to Astros 12-2

Boston Red Sox pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez was pulled int he second inning after giving up five runs as the Red Sox were blown out by the Houston Astros 12-2 on Thursday at Fenway Park.

Despite the loss, Boston clinches the AL East with one more win or Yankees loss. The Red Sox are now 92-67 on the season.

Houston Cruises to Win

Houston’s Marvin Gonzalez give the Astros control of the game in the first inning with a three-run double to center, putting Houston up 3-0.

In the second, Houston’s Alex Bregman blasted a two-run homer to put the Astros up 5-0 in the game.

The Red Sox would get two runs back in the bottom of the second on a home run by Mitch Moreland and an RBI single by Xander Bogaerts to cut Boston’s deficit to 5-2.

However, Houston would respond with four runs in the top of the fourth to take a 9-2 lead.

The Astros racked up 17 hits in the game en route to a 12-2 win.

The Red Sox and Astros continue their series on Friday, September 29 at 7 p.m.

The pitching matchup is Boston’s Doug Fister against Houston Charlie Morton.
