Betts Lifts Red Sox Past Reds 5-4

Mookie Betts hit a bases-loaded double and then scored on an infield single to lift the Boston Red Sox over the Cincinnati Reds 5-4 on Sunday.

Coupled with the Yankees loss, the Red Sox magic number to clinch the AL East is now three.

Boston went 8-1 on their nine-game road trip and improve to 91-64 on the season.

Red Sox Rally in 8th

Trailing 4-1 in the top of the 8th inning, Red Sox catcher Christian Vazquez drew a leadoff walk and Xander Bogaerts singled to left field.

Following a groundout by Dustin Pedroia, Andrew Benintendi drew a walk to load the bases.

Betts then belted a double to left field to tie the score.

Betts would then score on an infield single off the bat of Rafael Devers to give the Red Sox a 5-4 lead.

Craig Kimbrel picked up his 35th save of the season in the 9th.

Next Up

The Red Sox return to action on Monday, September 25 when they host the Toronto Blue Jays.

The pitching matchup is Boston’s Drew Pomeranz against Toronto’s Brett Anderson.

Game time is set for 7 p.m.
