Devers' Three-Run Home Run Lifts Red Sox Over Reds 5-4

Rafael Devers belted a three-run home run in the fourth inning and the Boston Red Sox edged the Cincinnati Reds 5-4 on Friday night.

The Red Sox improve to 89-64 on the season. With the Yankees loss to Toronto, Boston now has a four-game lead in the AL East.

Red Sox Rally in 4th

Trailing 4-1 in the fourth inning, Mookie Betts hit a leadoff double to right field and then Mitch Moreland drew a walk.

Catcher Christian Vazquez hit a double to center to score Betts to make the score 4-2 Reds.

Divers then came up and hit a three-run home run to right field to put the Red Sox ahead 5-4.

Pitcher David Price picked up the win after replacing Rick Porcello to start the fifth inning.

Porcello gave up a first-inning grand slam to Cincinnati’s Scooter Gennett to give the Reds a 4-1 lead at the time.

Porcello was pulled after just 57 pitches and four innings.

Craig Kimbrel came on in the ninth and picked up his 34th save of the season.

He has not allowed a run in his last 10 appearances.

The Red Sox and Reds continue their series on Saturday, September 23 at 4:10 p.m.

The pitching matchup is Boston’s Eduardo Rodriguez against Cincinnati’s Robert Stephenson.
