Moreland's 3-Run Home Run Leads Red Sox Past Reds 5-0

Mitch Moreland hit a three-run home run and Eduardo Rodriguez gave up only three hits in just over seven innings as the Boston Red Sox shut out the Cincinnati Reds 5-0 on Saturday.

Rodriguez has given up two or fewer runs in each of his last four starts. He gave up three singles and two walks in 7 2/3 innings en route to his 6th win of the season.

The Red Sox improve to 90-64 on the season. They maintain a four game lead over the Yankees in the AL East.

This is the second straight year in which the Red Sox reached 90 wins.

Red Sox Cruise Past Reds

Leading 1-0 after a Brock Holt sacrifice fly scored Xander Bogaerts in the first inning, the Red Sox broke the game open in the sixth.

With Holt and Andrew Benintendi on base, Moreland hit a three-run home run to center field to give the Red Sox a 4-0 lead.

Prior to the home run, Moreland was in an 0-for-19 slump. The home run was only his second of September.

Benintendi added an RBI single in the seventh to give Boston a 5-0 lead.

The Red Sox and Reds wrap up their series on Sunday, September 24 at 1 p.m.

The pitching matchup is Boston’s Doug Fister against Cincinnati’s Jackson Stephens.
