Revolution Cruise Past Rochester 3-0 in Open Cup Game in Providence
"This was a great venue. I thought it was actually extremely tight, I love the way that the crowd was. You felt like they were right on top of us. And I think we put on a pretty good — it was a good atmosphere — and we put on a good show in that atmosphere. It’s an awesome venue as well. Loved the field, loved the sideline locker rooms. It was a really cool place," said Revolution head coach Jay Heaps after the match.
The Revs were in Providence for the first time since the 2014 Open Cup. That year, they played at Brown University against the Rhinos, a game the Revs won 2-1.

"Obviously, I'm happy for the guys. We came about it the right way. The guys approached it the right way, set up a good team, and obviously I thought it was back and forth. And obviously, the game changed when the red card came, but I thought our guys handled the situation well and capitalized on it," said Heaps.
GoLocalProv teamed up with the Revolution for complete coverage of the game that was played at Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium on the campus of Providence Colllege.
Revolution Cruise Past Rhinos
The Revolution got on the board in the first half when forward Teal Bunbury was awarded a penalty kick after being taken down in the box. On the kick, Bunbury fired it to the bottom right corner, beating Rhinos goalkeeper Tomas Gomez to give the Revolution a 1-0 lead.
"I think Teal [Bunbury] just keeps going. For me, and the entire team, I think Teal is right on the cusp and continues to push and is someone that we need as we continue through this stretch," said Heaps.
The Revs would take that 1-0 lead into the half.
Just one minute later, New England's Zachary Herivaux found the back of the net off of a rebound in the to give the Revolution a 3-0 nothing lead.
Fagundez Makes History
Midfielder Diego Fagundez became the Revolution's all-time leader in U.S. Open Cup appearances with 13 when he entered the match in the second half.
Fagundez passed current Revolution coach Jay Heaps, Andy Dorman, and defender Chris Tierney, who all have 12 Open Cup appearances.
Tierney did not play in Wednesday night's game.
Next up
The Revolution return to MLS action on Saturday, June 17 when they host the Chicago Fire at Gillette Stadium.
Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.

The Revolution trailed 1-0 after a goal by Rochester’s Stoian Mladenov in the 23rd minute before Steve Ralston would tie the score two minutes later.
New England’s Taylor Twellman would give the Revolution a 2-1 lead int he 45th minute. New England would hang on to win.
New England would lose to the MetroStars 2-1 in the quarterfinal round.

Rochester Rhinos 1, Revolution 1 (Rhinos won on Penalty Kicks 3-1)
New England’s Pat Noonan scored in the 7th minute to give the Revolution a 1-0 lead. The Revs were unable to hang on.
Rochester’s Kirk Wilson would tie the game in the 61st minute. With no scoring the rest of the way, the game would go to penalty kicks.
Rochester would score three goals in the penalty kick shootout to beat New England 3-1.

Revolution 0, Rochester Rhinos 0 ( Revolution Won on Penalty Kicks 5-4)
The Revolution and Rhinos fired 19 and 14 shots respectively toward the net but neither team could score.
The game went to penalty kicks where the Revs would edge the Rhinos 5-4 to advance.
They would go on to lose to the Chicago Fire in the quarterfinal round.

With the game tied at two in the second half, Taylor Twellman netted his second goal of the game off a pass from Steve Ralston in the 90th minute to give the Revs a 3-2 lead.
Ralston would add his second goal of the game on a penalty kick in the 93rd minute to seal the Revolution's 4-2 win.
The Revolution would go on to win the U.S. Open Cup over F.C. Dallas.

Kelyn Rowe had two goals and an assist as the Revolution dominated the Rhinos in Rochester.
The Revs fired 17 shots while limiting Rochester to only eight shots in the match.

The Revolution got on the board early in the game with a goal by Saer Sene in the 11th minute to take a 1-0 lead.
Later in the half, Kelyn Rowe would add a goal in the 33rd minute to put New England up 2-0. The goal was his sixth Open Cup goal in five games.
Rochester cut their deficit to one, 2-1, on a goal by Colin Rolfe in the 55th minute, but the Revolution would hang on to win.
