He’s raised the $63 million dollar question — repeatedly.  He’s compared Providence to Greece.  He’s asked who knew what, and when, about the 38 Studios bonds (even picking up on the “hot air ball” — a key part of the state’s lawsuit regarding the difference between the amount loaned and the value of the underlying collateral.

Last Tuesday April 28, 2015 the Providence City Council Finance committee received the news that Providence had improperly included an asset of approximately $62 million in the Pension Plan. Councilmen were informed that this coming June 30th statements will show $62 million missing from the Pension Fund on the reported statement.  How could this happen? Riley has repeatedly said the the city is approaching default, that the “pension fund meltdown is in full force,” and that RI Auditor General Dan Hoyle is “allowing Providence to cheat its retirees and other cities can’t.”  Make no mistake about it, Riley doesn’t mince words — he’s bold and brash and takes no prisoners.  But after the 38 Studios debacle, and the precarious state of Providence, someone has to ask tough questions.
