The cornerstones of public education include parent and community involvement — and accountability — and Times2 teacher Charles Johnson embodied all three when he blew the whistle on what he saw taking place at the charter school — and found himself suspended for doing so. 

In May, Golocal reported, "A teacher at the Times² Academy in Providence who sent a letter to school leaders and elected officials expressing concerns about recent changes made to the curriculum -- and performance -- of the public charter school has been placed on administrative leave, following his issuing of the communication. Charles Johnson, who has taught at Times² for fifteen years and currently has his own children in the school's high school, said he has been raising issues regarding changes to classes and outcomes at the school to members of the community, but has gotten no response."

We 'believe' the article caused a conflict between the Director and the Board President in terms of the future direction the school,” said Johnson in the fall. “We don’t know 100% for sure, but he retired in August.  We have an interim Director Dr. Rudy Mosely.”
