Tuni Schartner: 18 Who Made a Difference in 2018

Innovation is coming to Newport. Tuni Schartner is one of the key players in creating the shared business incubation space called Innovate Newport.

The space is a long time in coming and could be the launching pad for the bubbling entrepreneurial tech companies hidden away in strange space spewed throughout Newport and the rest of Aquidneck Island. The new space is a mix of shared and leased space and the office space is nearly all already leased out.

Schartner is a woman on a mission — an evangelist —  spreading the word on how the new hub for technology and entrepreneurship will help transform Newport and build RI’s tech and startup community. This is not her first rodeo. She ran The Hive — the co-working space in North Kingstown.

The launch of Innovate Newport -- the joint effort of the City of Newport along with Commerce RI and the Newport Chamber of Commerce -- is now just weeks away.

Innovate Newport will be located at the redeveloped Sheffield elementary school on Broadway into a 33,000-square foot Class A coworking, private office, and meeting space,
