Death Vessel Debuts New Album at What Cheer? Antiques + Vintage

Believe it or not, as a person who has had the pleasure of enjoying the wonderful music coming out of Providence for nearly a decade there is one band I still haven't seen perform live.

That band, Death Vessel, celebrated the release of their brand new album Island Intervals at What Cheer? Antiques & Vintage located on historic Thayer Street in Providence this past Saturday.

It was ultra-cramped but the vibe was just right, the free samples of Narragansett's Imperial Bohemian Pilsner and Imperial Black Steam didn't hurt either. A wonderful way to kick off your Saturday night had to be at What Cheer, you just had to be here.

With record shelves instantly becoming beer stands and a mini PA system nestled in the corner, What Cheer? Records co-owner Chris Daltry (he's also in The 'Mericans & Purple Ivy Shadows) made an announcement for people to not leave without a copy of the new Death Vessel album and then the show got underway.

In the vintage clothing area this amazing quartet lead by Joel Thibodeau brought their brand of folk to the forefront. It was beautiful therapy for the ears and mind from the start, I liked the rugged strums of the electric guitar mixed with the acoustics.

A few originals off of the album and a cover of Bruce Springsteen's "I'm On Fire" (seems to be the cover of choice amongst a lot of Providence bands lately) exemplified a fantastic performance. If I had to pick a first time to see what Death Vessel has to offer this was the ideal time. The official release show will be at The Columbus Theatre on March 23rd but before that you should grab a copy of Island Intervals and you can get it at What Cheer? Antiques & Vintage.
